Step into the nostalgic world of the 1950s, where Top Hit Tunes emerged as a notable player among the budget record labels, with a solid connection to the renowned Enoch Light. Specializing in cover versions of contemporary hits, the label released these renditions on extended play 45s and 78s, often packaged in sets of three to offer a treasure trove of musical delights.

Imagine unwrapping one of these sets and discovering a diverse collection of pop tunes, each package containing a minimum of 18 tracks to keep your ears entertained for hours on end. But that's not all. Nestled within these sets was a special treat—a "bonus selections" record featuring a compilation of tracks from the label's back catalog, all tied together by a central theme.

From Discogs concerning the World's Greatest Music record label: "This U.S. label was produced by an unknown manufacturer for Music Appreciation Products, Inc. Several label varieties were produced, starting in 1938..."

The conductor for this recording is Arthur Rodzinski, in case you were wondering. Also, my set is incomplete, as I am missing the last of the five records containing parts nine and ten. Thus, movement four is not included in this video. The trouble with incomplete 78 rpm record sets is how seldom individual records from a specific set of interest are sold piecemeal. But, when they are, often the seller(s) think they are selling something rare and valuable, thus charging an unreasonably high price for their wares. The worst part about overpricers is they are typically very difficult to talk down to the realm of reason, as far as what is a truly fair price for their record is concerned. This is especially true when a budget release of niche interest is on the table. Who cares so much about a Royale Concert Orchestra release to the point they would shell out fifty dollars? The answer is simple, no one. I will get off my soapbox now. Jay Wilbur & His String Orchestra- Music To Love By (Tops Records L1507)

Tops records was a giant of the budget record label world in the 1950s. This is one of their earlier 12-inch 33 rpm releases, in this case, a set of instrumental easy listening background music tracks.

A1 Holiday For Strings A2 The Touch Of Your Lips A3 Make Believe A4 One Night Of Love A5 These Foolish Things A6 They Didn't Believe Me. B1 I'm Getting Sentimental Over You B2 The Very Thought Of You B3 Summertime B4 Lady Be Good B5 Tico Tico B6 Mamselle If you want to support this channel's ability to directly produce new content, consider becoming a patron at https://www.patreon.com/budgetvinylworld today! Royale Concert Orchestra- Moonlight Concert (Royale Records 45 RPM EP 295)

This is a relaxing set of instrumental easy listening tracks. Royale Records was king of the junk budget record labels of the 1950s. Eli Oberstien flooded the market with a seemingly endless stream of records in virtually all standard speeds and sizes for records of the period, except for 16 2/3 rpm, sadly. I find most eBay sellers think these are worth money; they are not, at least not more than a couple of dollars. These recordings appear to be reissued from the Sonora Records productions of various Gilbert & Sullivan operettas.

Paul Paine and His Society Orchestra- Honey Bun & A Cockeyed Optimist (Royale Records)

While this is a rip from a red-translucent 45 rpm release, the LP these tracks appeared note the identities of at least one set of vocalists, "The Twins." Royale Concert Orchestra- David Rose Hits and other Standards (Royale Records 1827)

Dave Rose's fame was all that was needed to sell this album consisting of instrumental covers of some of his tunes. However, the second side of the album is padded out with Paul Baron Orchestra recordings from the 1940s.

The album has a mass credit to the "Royale Concert Orchestra," with the assurance to discerning buyers that the disk recordings were made in Europe. The "recorded in Europe" note was partially correct. However, it was not unusual for Eli Oberstien's releases to carry very-much American recordings under the "Recorded in Europe" banner. Eli Oberstien avoided paying copyright and royalties as much as he could get away with. In this case, the second side is all Paul Baron and his Orchestra recordings, and the first side is possibly those nameless European musicians alluded to on the jacket. Eli also stole recordings from other labels from time to time- one never knows what exactly one is getting when a generic mass artist credit is slapped onto a budget release. Side 1 Royale Concert Orchestra-
  • Casse-Noisette
  • Holiday For Strings
  • Our Waltz
  • Stringopation
  • Dance of the Spanish Onion
Side 2 Paul Baron and his Orchestra [I have heard these recordings on other Oberstien record label releases where he is specifically credited as the artist of these recordings]
  • Toreador
  • Home On The Range
  • Lonely Prairie

I find most eBay sellers think these are worth money; they are not, at least not more than a couple of dollars at most. This album was an eBay purchase, where the shipping cost almost three times as much as I paid for the record- shipping was $2.80, and the album itself was $.99. My copy has a 39-cent price stamp on it. Interestingly, adjusting for inflation is precisely the price in 2020 USD, which I paid to get this record- how appropriate! Sal Franzella Quintette: Accordion Airs (Royale Records) EP 208 45 RPM Record

This is a transfer of my copy of Sal Franzella Quintette: Accordion Airs (Royale Records) 45 RPM EP 208.

I am not sure where the accordion comes into play; this is clearly a set of four jazz sides. My copy was not in the best of condition, but since not all of these tracks are on Youtube, I might put it out there for everyone to enjoy until a better copy comes along. I am also willing to sell my physical copies of the records I have digitized and uploaded onto Youtube. All records are priced at $1 each, plus the costs of shipping them media mail. The only exception is for the Seeburg 16 2/3 rpm releases, the market value for those is at least ten dollars apiece, and that is pretty much what I to pay to get ahold of any these days. Also, I was forced to drastically purge my collection multiple times between Fall 2014 and Summer 2017, so there is a good chance for videos released before or during that time period for me to no longer have possession of that record in my physical personal collection to sell.
